QUALITY OF LIFE AS A CRITERION FOR THE EFFECTIVENESS OF TREATMENT AND PREVENTION OF CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS WITH OBESITY
Abstract
Abstract: In recent years, evidence has emerged of a strong relationship between obesity and mental illness, which affects all aspects of a person’s quality of life. The purpose of this work was to study the quality of life of children and adolescents before and after treatment. Material and methods: In our study, the quality of life was assessed in 120 children and adolescents from 7 to 17 years old with idiopathic obesity (60 girls and 60 boys) and 120 practically healthy children with normal body weight. The average age of the subjects was 14.45±0.16 years. The survey was conducted after the study procedure was explained to children and parents. The pediatric quality of life questionnaire PedsQL 4.0 was used in this work. Results: In obese children, with a decrease in body weight, there is a significant improvement in all indicators of quality of life except school functioning. Losing body weight improves appearance, which increases the emotional level, and children gain self-confidence. Conclusions: Data from the work conducted indicate the feasibility of an integrated approach to assessing the health indicators of obese children. Assessing the child’s quality of life before, during and after treatment can help improve the medical care system for children with obesity.
